Important Information for the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago
Important Information for the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicag
Chicago will host the Democratic National Convention from August 19 to August 22, 2024. Here’s what you need to know to navigate the city during this time:
- Traffic Impact: Expect significant delays, especially near the United Center and McCormick Place. Allow extra travel time.
- Road Closures: From August 16-23, streets around these venues will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians. Areas around the United Center and McCormick Place will have restricted access, with some roads closed entirely. Detailed maps and lists of closures are provided on the city’s official website.
- Getting Around: Public transportation is highly recommended. The CTA, Metra, and Pace Bus services will be in operation. Be aware that some CTA bus routes will be rerouted. Check for updates on CTA’s website.
- Venue Access: Access to McCormick Place and the United Center requires an official convention badge. Delegates will have shuttle services from their hotels, which are the most convenient option to get close to the venues.
Here are some other tips on what to do and how to act:
- Remain aware of your surroundings and keep strangers from following you or piggyback into the building, on foot, by vehicle, into the garage, or in elevators. If you notice anything, please report it to the lobby staff of the building where you are living.
- When closing doors, please make sure they are secured. Reminder: please lock your vehicles and not leave windows or doors unlocked. Please always lock your unit doors.
- In addition to one’s fob, residents are reminded always to carry identification while traveling the area and throughout the building.
- Keep your mobile devices charged and consider carrying a portable charger. This will ensure you can receive updates and communicate with others during the event if your travel plans are disrupted. We encourage residents to download the Chicago OEMC app. The app is great for receiving alerts, safety tips, weather forecasts, street closures, event information, etc. The app is available through the Apple App and Google Play stores.
- Regularly check the official DNC website, local news outlets, and social media for updates on the event schedule, road closures, and other important information.
! Please note that all our properties require guests to have a fob with them as the front desk staff will not open the door automatically anymore for safety purposes. If you have any questions, please get in touch with your building staff or contact Manilow for any other questions!
