Enterprising Women Conference 2019
The Enterprising Women Conference was an incredible experience! Surrounded by so many successful and extraordinary businesswomen. Congratulations to Monica Smiley for another successful conference. This is one conference I always look forward to.
Among those attending was Dr. Terry Neese, the CEO and founder of the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women. The Instituteās PEACE THROUGH BUSINESSĀ® program was created to educate women who have suffered oppression and marginalization and whose homelands have been devastated by war, genocide, and poverty.
Manilow Suites has been a longtime supporter of this wonderful organization.
A number of years ago, I personally hosted a lunch for several women from Afghanistan who were selected to be part of this program. There was one young lady, only 21 at the time who I felt had that special something. She certainly has that special characteristic of a born leader and is now an assistant to the first lady of Afghanistan. She travels throughout the country, knowing how dangerous it is but is determined to help women in Afghanistan.
Manizha Wafeq was presented the 2019 Enterprising Women Advocacy Award.
Manizha, among many things, is also the IEEW In-Country Facilitator for Afghanistan.
Terry Neese did something so special for me, that I have only told a few people.
Over ten years ago, Terry Neese and a small group of Afghan women were invited to the White House to meet with Laura Bush. Terry, was kind enough to invite me as well. While we were waiting for Mrs. Bush, I walked in an adjoining room and was so surprised to see actual dishes that were used by most of the presidents of the United States. This is not a room on the general tour.
Laura Bush turned out to be a most genuinely charming and caring person.
